Ants

Ant Control & Carpenter Ant Treatment in Ontario

Spraying the ants you can see kills a fraction of the colony and often splits it. Effective ant control targets the nest and the foraging trail.

Overview

Ant Control in the GTA & southern Ontario

In Ontario homes we most often deal with pavement ants, pharaoh ants in multi-unit buildings, and carpenter ants, which excavate galleries in damp or previously water-damaged wood.

Carpenter ants matter structurally: their presence usually points to a moisture problem — a leaking sill, a failing deck ledger, an ice-dam-damaged roofline — that needs fixing alongside the treatment.

Signs

Signs to look for

  • Trails of ants along counters, baseboards or the exterior foundation
  • Coarse sawdust-like shavings near window frames, decks or door sills
  • Large black ants indoors in spring, especially at night
  • A faint rustling in a wall void with carpenter ant activity
  • Winged ants indoors, which can indicate a nest inside the structure

Our process

How we handle it

  1. 1Species identificationTreatment differs sharply between pavement, pharaoh and carpenter ants, so we identify before we treat.
  2. 2Trail and nest tracingWe follow foraging routes to locate the nest or satellite nest rather than treating symptoms.
  3. 3Colony treatmentBaiting and targeted application designed to be carried back to the colony.
  4. 4Moisture and entry reviewWith carpenter ants we identify the damp wood and access points that made the site attractive.
  5. 5Follow-upWe confirm the trail has collapsed and treat any satellite activity that appears.

Before we arrive

How to prepare

  • Do not spray trails before we arrive — it disperses the colony
  • Leave a visible trail intact so we can trace it
  • Wipe food spills and store sweet products sealed
  • Give access to basements, crawl spaces and the exterior perimeter

Prevention

Keeping it from coming back

  • Fix leaks, damp sills and poor drainage against the foundation
  • Keep mulch, soil and firewood away from the wall line
  • Replace water-damaged wood rather than painting over it
  • Trim branches that touch the roof or siding
  • Seal gaps around door thresholds and utility entries

Seasonal note: Ant calls in Ontario begin in March and April as colonies become active, peak in May and June, and continue through summer. Carpenter ant sightings indoors in early spring often mean a nest overwintered inside.

FAQ

Common questions

How do I know if they are carpenter ants?

Carpenter ants are large, usually black, and leave coarse shavings that look like pencil sharpenings. Pavement ants are small and trail in numbers along cracks and edges.

Do carpenter ants damage a house like termites?

They do not eat wood, they hollow it out to nest, and they prefer wood that is already damp. Damage is slower than termite damage but still worth addressing early.

Are your technicians licensed?

Yes. Pest control in Ontario is regulated, and any pesticide application we perform is carried out by a licensed exterminator working within Ontario's Pesticides Act and the product label.

Do you serve both homes and businesses?

We handle ant work for houses, condos and apartments as well as commercial properties such as restaurants, offices, retail units and multi-unit residential buildings.

What areas do you cover?

The Greater Toronto Area — Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, Vaughan, Markham, Richmond Hill, Scarborough, North York, Etobicoke, Oakville, Oshawa, Pickering and Ajax — plus Hamilton, Kitchener–Waterloo–Cambridge and London.

How do I get a price?

Call 365-293-5253 or send the inspection request form. We ask what you're seeing, where, and for how long, because the size of the property and the extent of the activity drive both the treatment plan and the cost.
