Wasps & hornets

Wasp & Hornet Nest Removal

A nest above a doorway or beside a play area is a safety problem, not a nuisance, and it is one of the few pest jobs where we prioritise same-day attendance.

What we treat

Wasps & hornets — what is covered

We remove wasp, yellowjacket, hornet, bald-faced hornet and paper wasp nests from homes, businesses and playgrounds across the GTA, Hamilton, KWC, Durham & York Region.

Nests in soffits, wall voids and ground burrows need to be treated at the access point rather than knocked down — disturbing a nest without treatment is how people get stung repeatedly.

  • Soffit, eave and roofline nests
  • Wall void and attic-entry nests
  • Bald-faced hornet nests in trees, sheds and playsets
  • Ground-nesting yellowjackets in lawns and gardens
  • Paper wasp nests on porches, decks and railings
  • Patio and restaurant terrace wasp pressure in late summer

Signs of infestation

What to look for

  • Steady wasp traffic in and out of one point on the building
  • A grey papery nest under a soffit, eave or deck
  • Wasps emerging from a gap in siding or brick — a hidden wall-void nest
  • Increasing numbers around patios and garbage in late summer
  • Wasps appearing indoors through a ceiling light or vent
  • A large enclosed grey paper nest, often high in a tree or under an eave
  • Fast, direct flight lines to a single opening at the base of the nest
  • Defensive behaviour when the mower or trimmer runs nearby

Our process

Inspection, treatment, exclusion, follow-up

  1. 1Locate the access pointWe watch flight lines to find the true entrance, which is often not where the nest appears to be.
  2. 2Assess the riskHeight, wall voids, allergy concerns and pedestrian traffic change the safe method.
  3. 3TreatmentApplied at the entrance so returning wasps carry it into the nest.
  4. 4Removal or monitoringAccessible nests are removed once inactive; wall-void nests are left in place and sealed after activity stops.
  5. 5Prevention adviceWe point out the openings likely to be reused next season.

Why DIY often fails

What goes wrong without a licensed technician

  • Spraying a visible nest from the ground usually provokes defensive stinging
  • Knocking a nest down without treatment leaves the colony active and angry
  • Wall void and soffit nests cannot be reached with retail products
  • Sealing an active entry point drives wasps through drywall into living space
  • Ladder work near a live nest causes most serious injuries in these jobs

Prevention

Keeping it from coming back

  • Seal gaps in soffits, siding and vent screens in early spring
  • Check sheds, playhouses and BBQ covers before summer use
  • Keep garbage and recycling lids closed in late summer
  • Remove old nests only after they are confirmed inactive
  • Inspect trees, eaves and fence corners in June while nests are small
  • Keep shed and garage doors closed
  • Cover exposed vent openings with intact screening

Quick answers

Frequently asked questions

What does wasp nest removal cost in Ontario?

It depends on access and location — a porch paper wasp nest is quick, while a soffit or wall void nest takes longer and may need a return visit. Call 365-293-5253 for a price over the phone.

Will the wasps come back to the same spot?

The treated colony does not, but a sheltered spot that attracted one nest often attracts another the next season, so we advise on screening and sealing after the season ends.

I found a wasp nest near my house — what should I not do?

Do not spray from a ladder, do not knock it down, and do not seal the entrance while the nest is active — sealed wasps often chew through into the interior of the building.

Wasp nest or hornet nest — how do I tell?

Bald-faced hornet nests are large, enclosed, football-shaped grey paper structures hanging in the open. Common wasp nests are often smaller, and paper wasp nests are open combs under eaves.
