- 1Map where the catches happenConsistent catches in one area point at the side of the building where access exists.
- 2Walk the exterior at ground levelCheck the foundation line, hose bibs, gas and AC penetrations, weep holes and window wells.
- 3Check the garage thoroughlyDoor corner seals and the wall shared with the house are the most common combined route.
- 4Look upSoffit gaps, roofline junctions and vent screens matter on homes with mature trees nearby.
- 5Seal with the right materialsRodent-resistant metal mesh, sheet metal and mortar. Expanding foam alone gets chewed through.
- 6Remove the food and harbourageSealed dry goods, tidy garage storage, and vegetation trimmed off the walls.
